The Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou organized the Malaysia National Day reception at the Hotel Nikko Guangzhou on 8 September 2017. The event was hosted by Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General and Mrs. Idawati Zakariah, spouse of the Consul General. Mr. Zhang Hu, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial People's Government and Director General of the General Office of Guangdong Provincial People's Government and Mr. Diao Ailin, Deputy Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipal People's Government were present to represent the Guangdong and Guangzhou Government, respectively.
In his speech delivered during the event, the Consul General highlighted the close relations between Malaysia and China, giving special emphasis on economic, education and cultural cooperation between Malaysia and Guangdong. In his reply, Mr. Zhang Hu also gave tribute to the good relations between the two sides and reaffirmed commitment to further deepen cooperation with Malaysia.
Guests at the reception were treated to a sumptuous variety of Malaysian cuisines among them included nasi lemak, beef rendang, sambal undang, durian pancake, roti canai, roti jala, mee goreng mamak, rojak, karipap, durian ice cream, sirap bandung, Malaysian white coffee and teh tarik. The food and drinks were prepared by Chef Elton Chong Yuen Choon and Chef Zainal Abidin Bin Yahya, both whom are Malaysians.
As part of the official programme, the cultural troupe Akademi Arjunasukma, (15-members group) performed the Dikir Barat for 30 minutes in several different languages which captivated the audience while Chef Zainal performed a teh tarik demonstration during the intervals.
More than 450 guests comprising of Guangdong, Guangzhou, Zhanjiang and Dongguan officials, Consular Corps, Chinese friends, friends of Malaysia and the Malaysian community attended the event.
