The Consulate General of Malaysia, Guangzhou successfully participated in the 3rd Nanyang Culture Festival. During the Festival, with the kind assistance of the Xiamen Foreign Affairs Office and Le Meridien Hotel in Xiamen, the Malaysian Mission in Guangzhou took the opportunity to promote Malaysia’s cuisine and culture, tourism, investment and trade promotions. Meetings and discussions between Consulate Officials with the leaders, local officials and business people of Xiamen were also held.
The Nanyang Festival is a platform to further promote interactions to enhance culture, investment, tourism, trade and education exchanges. It is a biennial event aimed at promoting cooperation and partnership between China and ASEAN countries. “Nanyang” is a Chinese terminology generally used to refer to Southeast Asia. It is a cultural term and has been used to describe the Culture Festival since the first festival held in 2008. The 3rd Festival was held in Xiamen, Province of Fujian from 28 April-1 May 2012.
The Festival is inclusive of a whole series of activities to give exposure to the Nanyang (Southeast Asia) culture, which, given its rich contents, well-defined positioning and distinctive Nanyang features, will further enhance the cultural bond between Southeast Asia and China especially in Xiamen and in turn provide momentum to a sustainable and all-round partnership. The 3rd Festival was organised by the Xiamen Municipal Government through the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen and the Consular Corp in Xiamen and also co-organised by the Malaysian and Indonesian Consulates General in Guangzhou.
