The launching of Malaysia Pavilion was held on 22 September 2017 in conjunction with the 2017 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (MSR) International Expo in Dongguan. As part of the launching of the Malaysia Pavilion ceremony, YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan, President of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association delivered the welcoming remarks followed by speeches from Mr. Fan Jianbo, Vice Director of Dongguan Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Mr. Muzambli Markam, the Consul General of Malaysia. A ribbon cutting ceremony was organized to officially officiate the Pavilion. YB Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Senior EXCO member from the Selangor State Government and representatives from Perbadanan Putrajaya were also present during the event
2. This year marks the 4th edition of the Expo since it was first introduced in 2014. The official opening ceremony was held on Friday, 22 September 2017 attended by the Guangdong Provincial Government, Dongguan Municipal Government, official dignitaries from abroad and the Consular Corps from Guangzhou. Mr. Chen Yunxian, Member of the Chinese Communist Party of Guangdong Committee (former Vice Governor of Guangdong from 2011-2016) represented the Guangdong Government in officiating the expo.
3. The 2017 Guangdong 21st Century MSR International Expo is one of the few large scale international expo organized by provincial level government as part of the Belt and Road initiative exponent by President Xi Jinping. The role of the Expo as advocated by Guangdong was to promote economic cooperation and exchanges between the province and countries along the Maritime Silk Road.
4. The bulk of the Malaysian exhibitors present at the Expo are mainly from the food and beverages industry, agriculture products, tourism & cultural, building material and engineering, education, agarwood industry, health and wellness products and property development etc.
