On 13 May 2026, Sofitel Hotel Kunming had a discussion with Malawakil. The focus of the discussion was on Sofitel’s intention to have Malaysian Food Festival at Sofitel Kunming tentatively in July 2026. Sofitel was led by Mr. Marc De Beer, General Manager of Sofitel Kunming (GM Marc).
After the usual exchange of pleasantries, GM Marc introduced himself and his team. GM Marc briefed on Sofitel operations in Kunming since it started its operations in December 2015.
GM Marc explained that one of the hotel’s directions is to introduce Southeast Asian taste to the locals through one of its in-house restaurant, LAN. For this matter, the hotel has done promotion of various Southeast Asian cuisines one-by-one, started with Thailand, and most recently Laos. The next country they have in mind is Malaysia.
In relation to this, GM Marc informed that Sofitel plans to have Malaysian Food Festival tentatively in July 2026 and requested Malawakil’s support for the event. GM Marc also informed that Sofitel Kunming is liaising with Sofitel Damansara, Malaysia to come up with appropriate menu and Malaysian dishes for this event.
