On 30 May 2026, Malawakil Kunming participated in the KIA International Fair 2026 organised by Kunming International Academy (KIA) at the latter’s school compound in Kunming. The event was participated by 15 countries, including Malaysia. Other participating countries include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam. The objective of the International Fair was to showcase culture and food by participating countries to the locals.
The event was attended by the parents of the students studying at KIA, as well as the locals. It was estimated that more than 500 people attended the International Fair.
For the food preparation at the International Fair, Malawakil has engaged Seon Hui Restaurant, the only restaurant in Kunming that serves Malaysian cuisine as its main menu and could cater for halal requirements.
Malaysia booth prepared 4 different types of dishes for the event namely bihun sup ayam, koteow goreng, roti jala with chicken curry, and multiple types of nyonya kueh as well as air bandung. The attendees to the event were given a food passport that will be stamped every time they tried food samples from participating countries’ booth.
As part of promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026), as well as promoting Bahasa Melayu at international level, Malawakil performed a song Saya Anak Malaysia during the international fair.
In addition, Malawakil also organized games in Bahasa Melayu. CG Kunming took the lead during the games by reading out questions in Bahasa Melayu and was translated into English and Chinese for local consumption. The games include participants trying to complete a Malay pantun and idioms, and read it out loud for consideration. Aside from that, the game also includes the participants been given the names of several states in cities in Malaysia in Chinese and the participants required to write down and pronounce the names of cities in Malaysia correctly in Bahasa Melayu.
The participants were encouraged to engaged Malay-speaking individuals at Malaysia booth to help them getting the correct answers. The winners were given the VMY 2026 mascot if they answered the questions correctly.
The event ended with parade of flags of the participating countries by the students as well as showcase of traditional clothing.
