At the invitation of Mr. Albert Lee, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Kunming Hotel City Center, CG Faizal Shani attended the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Food Festival 2020 on 10 September 2020.
Mr. Albert, who also a Malaysian informed that the event is the first-ever Malaysian Food Festival being organized by the said hotel located in the city of Kunming and they are keen to further collaborate with the Consulate to have the said event annually.
Among the more famous foods that served and available during the Malaysian Food Festival until the end of October 2020 are nasi lemak, satay (chicken, beef, and lamb skewers), dried beef curry, Malay pastries, bamboo rice, salad rojak, curry chicken, laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Rojak, Bak Kut Teh, etc.
At the said event, the audiences as well as the food lovers have also enjoyed the dance performances from the students of the Faculty of Bahasa Melayu, Yunnan Minzu University of Kunming.
When asked by the Yunnan Daily about the Malaysian food, CG Faizal stated that the natural advantages of multiculturalism and ethnicity have created varieties of special cuisine in Malaysia that having such similarities to dishes from other Southeast Asian countries, a stronger taste, mostly flavored with pepper and curry that known for spiciness, sweetness, and sourness.
