MEETING WITH KUNMING MUNICIPAL BUREAU OF EDUCATION AND SPORT
The said meeting took place at the office of the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Education and Sport in the Chenggong District that located 10 km from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan.
Consul General Faizal was briefed by Vice Director Jiang, that Kunming Municipal is perusing the agenda to become the Regional International Central Hub by promoting three (3) main areas namely tourism destination, education hub including health city.
On top of that, Kunming (Yunnan) is ranked first within the Southwestern region in the standard of the facility as well as coverage for education and sport. For information, there are more than 15,000 foreign students currently studying in Kunming/Yunnan with more than 50 universities/vocational institutions/colleges have established.
Kunming is also the host for an international sports event including football, sepak takraw, tennis, dragon boat, as well as marathon and cycling. The Kunming Football Academy has established the young-football programme with Liverpool Football Club since 2019.
According to the Director of Sport, if the situation permits this year, Kunming Government is expecting to invite the Malaysian team to participate in the Kunming International Sepak Takraw Championship (June) and the Kunming Dragon Boat Festival (November). For the record, the Malaysian Sepak Takraw team competed in the 2019 tournament in Kunming with the last Kunming Dragon Boat Festival held in 2017.
Further discussion shall be expanded in the areas of an international student scholarship programme, vocational and technical exchanges as well as training facilities or programme relating to the sport.
