
With the collaboration of the Wanda Vista Kunming Resort Hotel, Tourism Malaysia Guangzhou, and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming, the Opening Ceremony of the Malaysian Food Festival and Culture 2020 was held on Saturday, 5 December 2020 at the Wanda Vista Kunming Resort Hotel. Kunming.
The said event was the second ever occasion relating to the promotion of Malaysian food and culture in Kunming for the year 2020, with the first was organized by the Crown Plaza Kunming on last 10 September 2020 that lasted for a month.
The General Manager of Wanda Vista Kunming Resort Hotel, Mr. Alfred at his press conference together with the Director of Tourism Malaysia (Guangzhou) informed the audience that the idea of having the Malaysian Food and Culture promotion is not only focusing to introduce the Malaysian food and delicacies to the local people but also to create new opportunities between the hotel and Malaysia on the agenda of tourism promotion.
The Director of Tourism Malaysia (Guangzhou), Mr. Aaron Gan Chai Heng further explained that the natural advantages of multiculturalism and ethnicity have created varieties of special cuisine in Malaysia that having such similarities to dishes from other Southeast Asian countries, a stronger taste, mostly flavored with pepper and curry that known for spiciness, sweetness, and sourness.
Subsequently, Consul General Faizal Shani in his remarks during the Opening Ceremony informed the audience that the Malaysia Food Festival 2020 is not only meant to promote the special cuisine and delicacies of Malaysia but moreover, it serves as a window for the Kunming people to know more about Malaysia of its culture, heritage, and history that help to promote better understanding, trust, and openness between the people of both sides.
The Consul General also took the opportunity to sincerely welcome tourist from Yunnan or Kunming to experience gastronomic Malaysia has to offer including personally experiencing the exciting diversity of cultures, festivals, traditions, and customs that known as the "Truly Asia” – Malaysia.
Among famous foods that available during the Malaysian Food Festival that are scheduled for 15 days are nasi lemak, satay (chicken, beef, and lamb skewers), dried beef curry, Malay pastries, rojak, curry chicken, Rojak, Bak Kut Teh, including teh-tarik and etc.
At the said event, the audiences as well as the food lovers have also enjoyed the dance performances from students of the Faculty of Bahasa Melayu, Yunnan Minzu University of Kunming.
