On 11-13 September 2024, the flight from Lijiang to Kuala Lumpur resumed after it was suspended during the pandemic.
The inaugural flight departed from Lijiang Sanyi International Airport (LJG) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) at 8am. The flight returned from KLIA2 to LJG and arrived in Lijiang at 5.45pm.
The flight from KLIA2 carried 154 passengers from Malaysia and took about 4 hours. The passengers were greeted at the airport by the Consul General of Malaysia in Kunming, Director of Lijiang Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, and Deputy Director of Lijiang Department of Transport.
The flight frequencies will gradually increase in which one flight every Wednesday in September and October 2024, three flights weekly beginning November then increased to four flights weekly beginning of March 2025. The flight numbers are 8L837 and 8L838.
During the event, CG Kunming was also interviewed by Yunnan Media Group on the tarmac. CG Kunming took the opportunity to highlight about the 50 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China as well as the benefits derived from the increasing people to people connectivity between Malaysia and China due to the excellent connectivity.
The event was also attended by the Director of Department of Tourism Lijiang, Deputy Director of Department of Transport Lijiang as well as the Vice President of Lucky Air. CG Kunming also took the opportunity on the sidelines to interact and exchange views with the officials on matters related to relevant cooperation that could be explored between them and their relevant counterparts/ stakeholders in Malaysia.
