Seminar on the Upgraded Version of China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement

Consul General of Malaysia to Kunming, Mr. Faizal Shani delivered a keynote speech at the Seminar on the Upgraded Version of China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement oWednesday, 25 November 2020, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Yunnan Sub-council China Chamber of International Commerce, Yunnan Chamber in Kunming.

 

Other VIPs that participated and delivered the keynote speech was the Consul General of Laos and Thailand, including the Director-General of the Department of Bilateral Cooperation of International Commerce and President of the Zhejiang University Academy of International Strategy and Law.

 

 

The Consul General in his speech stated that Malaysia sees China not only as close partner within the multilateral fora of ASEAN. Significantly, Malaysia and China have developed comprehensive strategic partnership cooperation in both, short and long term agendas that emphasizing win-win situation, mutual partnership and inclusiveness.

 

Hence, Malaysia as a member of ASEAN realizes that the upgraded protocol of CAFTA serves not only as a new impetus but also helps to mitigate earlier problems by advancing flexibility in defining countries of origin, further improving trade facilitation and lowering the thresholds for investment and service trades. Subsequently, new growth in fields like finance, logistics, and transportation, tourism and communications, technological cooperation including construction are expected to further expand.

 

Consul General also stated that China’s accession to RCEP is a clear manifestation of Beijing’s commitment to promoting global trade, building an open world economy, and improving the wellbeing of the peoples of all countries under the agenda win-win situation.
