Ambassador Jojie Samuel hosted an ASEAN Luncheon Talk at the official Residence on Thursday 22 March 2012. During the programme, two Cuban guest speakers were invited to speak on the topic of “Cuban Domestic Political and Economic”. The guest speakers were Dr. Ricardo Torres Perez, Head of Team of Cuban Economy of the Center of Studies of the Cuban Economy (CEEC) of the University of Havana, and Ms. Barbara Betancourt Abreu, Journalist for Radio Habana Cuba Broadcasting Station.
The programme was held as part of monthly activities of the ASEAN Ambassadors Group. Malaysia is currently the Chairman of the ASEAN Ambassadors Group for the duration of four months starting from February to May 2012.
Among the other invited guests were ASEAN Ambassadors in Havana (Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Philippines [Charge d’ Affairs, a.i] and Viet Nam), and the Ambassador of Timor Leste. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba was represented by Mr. Herminio Lopez Diaz, Deputy Director of Asia and Oceania Division.
