On the occasion of the 54th Anniversary of the National Day of Malaysia, the Embassy of Malaysia in Havana, Cuba held a Reception on 20 September 2011, at Havana Libre Tryp Hotel, to commemorate our 54 years of Independence. This year’s National Day theme was “1Malaysia: Successful Transformation, Prospering the People”.
The reception started at 7.00 p.m. with the playing of the National Anthem of Cuba and Negaraku, followed by remarks by H.E. Ambassador Jojie Samuel and cake-cutting ceremony by H.E. Ambassador and the Guest of Honour. The Guest of Honour for the reception was H.E. Madame Margarita Marilene Gonzalez Fernandez, Minister of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Cuba. Amongst other invitees who attended were Ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Cuban Ministries and Agencies, Cuba’s MTCP-Alumni Committee members, media, Malaysians residing in Cuba, Embassy staff and Malaysian students.
Around 300 guests attended the reception. Aside from the local Cuban dishes, the guests were treated to some Malaysian delicacies such as karipap, kuih ketayap, kuih lapis, and cucur udang. The Havana Studio String Trio also performed some Malaysian and Cuban songs at the event.
