On the occasion of the 57th National Day of Malaysia, the Embassy of Malaysia in Havana, Cuba held a Reception at Meliá Cohiba Hotel on 19 September 2014. This year’s National Day theme is “Malaysia: Where Love Grows”.
The Reception started at 7.30 p.m. with the playing of the National Anthem of Cuba followed by Negaraku. Mr. Roslan Sharif, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Malaysia in Cuba then delivered his remarks.
The Guests of Honour who attended the Reception representing the Government of the Republic of Cuba were Her Excellency Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment of the Republic of Cuba, and Her Excellency Ana Teresita González Fraga, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.
Amongst other invitees who attended the event were Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Cuban Ministries and Agencies, Cuba’s MTCP Alumni members, local and foreign media representatives, Malaysian students and Embassy staff.
Around 200 guests attended the Reception. Aside from the food offered by the Hotel, the guests were also treated to Malaysian delicacies such as karipap and satay. The guests were also entertained with several Malaysian and Cuban musical instrumentals performed by the Frasis string ensemble whilst also seeing video footages and images of Malaysia played on the screen of the Hall.
