The Republic of Fiji organized a Meeting ISO COPOLCO (Committee on Consumer Policy) from 14-18 May 2012 at Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, Denarau. The meeting was attended by delegations from countries around the world including Malaysia. There were two (2) Malaysian delegations from Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation participated in this meeting. During the deliberation, the Chairman of ISO/COPOLCO emphasized that the focus of the meeting should be its attention to the Pacific region on standards and consumer protection.
The meeting concluded that The Pacific Island Consumer Network (PICN) will work under Asian Network for Consumer (ANCO) to tackle the consumer protection issues like fraud and trade in counterfeit goods. The initiative would benefit the consumers and improve standards in the Pacific region.
The next International Organisation for Standardisation Committee on Consumer Policy (ISO/COPOLCO) Meeting will be held in Malta in 2013.
