Check out the highlight video of the World Migratory Birds Day 2024 celebrated at the Nasese mudflats on 2 November 2024. In his speech, H.E. Nor' Azam Mohd Idrus, High Commissioner of Malaysia (“TYT”) expressed his heartfelt appreciation to gratitude to Ms. Fareea Ma, Capacity Development & Project Manager at BirdLife International. The High Commission supported the event through Program Sinergi Rakyat Malaysia (PSRM). It was able to be carried out by engaging with Malaysians abroad, like Ms. Ma, who leads impactful programs. In line with the objectives of the PSRM, TYT hoped the event would strengthen bonds among Malaysians abroad, foster positive impacts in Fiji, and reinforce the international image of Malaysia. The event shed light on the mudflats’ vital role as one of the essential feeding grounds for migratory birds, particularly the Wandering Tattler. Astonishingly, the Nasese mudflats support the densest population of Wandering Tattlers per unit area worldwide. The event brought together a vibrant mix of attendees, including children, scientists, environmental advocates, local communities, media representatives, academics, and civil society organisations. The event featured bird counting, a discovery walk at the Nasese foreshore mudflats to record the different types of animals and plants living there, and a chance to savor sumptuous Malaysian meals.
