On 5 April 2025, General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam bin Haji Jaffar, Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysia, held an engagement session with Brigadier General Matanius Ibrahim of the Lebanese Armed Forces at Rafic Hariri International Airport (RHIA), Beirut. Joining the meeting was also Ambassador Azri. During the session, General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam expressed his sincere appreciation to Brigadier General Matanius for the warm hospitality and excellent support extended to him and his delegation throughout their official visit to Lebanon from 2 to 6 April 2025.

General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam informed that the official visit provided an opportunity to receive a comprehensive operational briefing on the role and activities of the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) operating under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He was also updated on the current developments within the Malaysian Area of Responsibility and conveyed his full confidence in the dedication, professionalism, and discipline of the Malaysian peacekeepers. General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam reaffirmed Malaysia’s steadfast support for UNIFIL and its mission to maintain peace and stability in southern Lebanon.

General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet General Rodolphe Haykal, Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Both leaders reaffirmed the strong defence relationship between Malaysia and Lebanon, and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in peacekeeping, training, and defence exchanges. The visit was marked by meaningful dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
