On Friday 7th November, 2014, Consul General Abdullah was invited by Mercy Islamic Center to attend the Salatul Jumu’ah at Ma-a Davao City.
Imam of Masjid Al Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqili delivered Khutbah and led the Salatul Jumu’ah at Sunny Point Hotel, Ma-a, Davao City. This program is organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Manila and Mercy Islamic Center in Davao City in cooperation with Davao City Muslim Tribal Deputy Mayors and Ulama. Over 1,000 Muslims from Davao City, Cotabato City and Marawi City has attended this once in a lifetime chance to have an Imam of Makkah visiting Davao City.
After the Salatul Jumu’ah, Consul General Abdullah was invited to join lunch with Imam Sheikh Maher and entourage. Before the lunch begins, Imam Sheikh Maher has expressed his interest to visit Malaysia.
Imam Sheikh Maher visit to Davao City also coincided with 634th Anniversary of Sheikh Makdum, first missionary who introduced Islam to Mindanao through Simunul in Tawi-Tawi.
