Consul General Mohammad Azhar Mazlan visited the University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan, Cotabato on 4 October 2011 where he delivered a speech as one of the guest speakers at the celebrations of the International Peace Day. In attendance of approximately eighty (80) people were the University Student Government, Campus Leaders and students of Bachelor of Science in International Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. The other speakers were members of the Diplomatic Corps namely the Hon. Yoshiyuki Isoda, Consul of Japanese Consulate and the Hon. Sukarsono, Acting Consul General of Indonesian Consulate. Several lecturers of the university present are the former participants of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
2. In his speech, Consul General stated that peace is pre-requisite to any social and economic development. As close neighbours, Malaysia and the Philippines have been enjoying close relations in all spheres. Both countries have expanded their relations and cooperation among others, in the field of capacity building, culture, education, investment, trade, tourism, science and technology for mutual benefit. At the invitation of the Philippine government, Malaysia has been playing its role in the peace process in Mindanao.
3. The talks have enabled Consul General to inform the participants particularly the varsity students being the country’s future leaders, about the importance of peaceful co-existence for the benefit of the entire human race.
