Consul General Abdullah Zawawi Tahir attended the Batik Workshop and Indocraft 2013, hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia on 5 April 2013 at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Atrium. The event was organized in partnership with the Batik House Indonesia. The three-day program showcased the quality design of Indonesian handicraft.
The Batik Tulis or Handwritten Batik, the traditional Indonesian art of decorating cloth using wax and dye was designated by UNESCO in 2009 for being a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity". It was brought into the spotlight during the event.
The opening ceremony of the event was attended by the Consul General, Consul, Honorary Consul and Diplomatic Corps in Davao City, Private Sectors, Teachers and Students from the academe and citizens of Davao City who were interested in this traditional craft.
In Summation, the aim of the event to unite the Davao community through art was able to achieve through this program.
