On 20 February 2012, Mission had organized a meeting followed by an afternoon tea with fellow Malaysians living in Timor Leste. The event was held at the Embassy of Malaysia to Timor Leste.
A total of 30 Malaysians from all walks of life including those from the business community, Malaysian police and officials serving under the United Nations and foreign companies were present. The main objective of the meeting was to provide a briefing on the security and safety measures that should be taken before, during and after the Presidential Election that took place on 10 March 2012. Guests were also advised to take the necessary precautions with regard to the increasing cases of dengue and malaria fevers in Dili.
Aside from that, those attended were encouraged to register themselves with Mission and to advise other fellow Malaysians in Timor Leste to take similar action. Mission further informed them that this could be done on-line for their own convenience.
