Barquisimeto, 1 June 2024 – The Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia met with representatives from the International Trade Division of the Governor’s Office of Lara State to discuss potential trade collaborations between Malaysia and Venezuela, focusing on Lara State’s strengths and opportunities.
The Chargé d'Affaires highlighted Malaysia’s participation in the 2024 International Goat and Sheep Festival in Barquisimeto, where the Embassy showcased the country’s thriving halal industry. He emphasised the potential of the global halal market, which is projected to grow to USD 5 trillion by 2030. The Chargé d'Affaires noted that non-Muslim countries such as Brazil, India, and the United States are among the leading exporters to Muslim-majority countries, illustrating the inclusive and diverse nature of the halal market. He also pointed out Venezuela’s potential, given its sizable Muslim population and existing halal meat producers, which could support the expansion of its domestic halal industry.
The Embassy shared insights into Malaysia’s leadership in the halal sector, including its globally recognised halal certification managed by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). Malaysia’s halal certification is accepted in over 150 countries, and the country’s 14 halal parks across 10 states have attracted USD 4.4 billion in investments. These achievements underline Malaysia’s commitment to the halal industry, and the Chargé d'Affaires expressed Malaysia’s interest in partnering with Venezuela to tap into this growing market.
Representatives from Lara’s International Trade Division welcomed the discussion and expressed their enthusiasm for closer economic cooperation. They emphasised Lara State’s strategic location and strong transportation infrastructure, which supports the export of locally produced goods such as goat and sheep products, pineapples, cocoa, and coffee. The representatives shared their optimism about building stronger trade ties with Malaysia and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in various sectors.
The meeting was a positive step forward, with both sides eager to work together to create new economic opportunities that benefit both Malaysia and Lara State. It showcased the potential for meaningful partnerships to drive growth and prosperity for both nations.
