In conjunction with the Global Education Exhibition 2011 organized in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia from 10-19 February 2011, the Embassy of Malaysia in Harare and Saddein Group had jointly organized the highlight ceremony of the exhibition involving the award giving ceremony and pre-departure briefings for new students and parents at the compound of the Embassy of Malaysia in Harare on Tuesday, 15 February 2011. Prior to that Mission opened a booth to display information on Malaysia on education, tourism and cultural products etc. during the Education Exhibition held at Meikles Hotel in Harare on 14 February 2011.
The event was well attended by over 100 guests comprising of government officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Malaysian universities and colleges, students and parents as well as media representatives of Zimbabwe. The Guest of Honour at the event was Dr. Stephen M. Mahare, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture of Zimbabwe who was representing the Honorable Minister of Education.
In his opening remarks, CDA Mohamad Nizan Mohamad commended Saddein group for its efforts in promoting Malaysia as the centre of educational excellence and a gateway to quality education as well as highlighting current efforts by the Government of Malaysia in attaining nation’s aspiration to become the centre for educational excellence in the region before delivering pre-departure briefing. Mission had invited Mr. Rapheal T. Faranisi, Director of Protocol and Consular of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe to also give pre-departure briefing. In his speech, Mr. Faransi was appreciative of the event organized by the Embassy and urged students to uphold the image of their home country and that of the host country by socializing and interacting well with local population while in Malaysia. This was follow with the award giving ceremony by the Guest of Honour to nine (9) outstanding graduates from the respective Malaysian universities and college.
The session ended at 8.30 pm with high notes based on guests’ very positive and encouraging comments and testimonies on the event. The refreshment was served at the end of the session.
