OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO HIS EXCELLENCY ENVER HOXHAJ TO MALAYSIA 25 JANUARY 2017

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, His Excellency Enver Hoxhaj [En-ver Ho-xhaj - /Enver/ ?ho? /jai/], will be undertaking a one-day official visit to Malaysia on 25 January 2017. This will be the first high-level visit from Kosovo in four years. The last visit from Kosovo was by the then President of Kosovo, Her Excellency Atifete Jahjaga, who was in Malaysia to attend the Global Summit of Women in June 2013.

During the course of the visit, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman is scheduled to host a bilateral meeting with H.E. Hoxhaj. The two dignitaries are expected to exchange views on a broad range of topics including bilateral relations as well as international cooperation. H.E. Hoxhaj is also due to meet with senior representatives of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), to explore collaboration in the areas of commerce and industry.

Ever since diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Kosovo were established on 18 March 2011, the two countries have maintained friendly ties and good cooperation, bilaterally as well as in the international arena. As relations between the two countries are in its infancy, there is still ample room to expand cooperation for mutually-beneficial purposes, including in areas such as trade, investment and education.

The visit highlights the positive momentum of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Kosovo. It is also a reflection of Kosovo’s appreciation for the support Malaysia has provided ever since the former’s independence in 2008. Furthermore, it signifies Kosovo’s strong desire to learn from Malaysia’s experience. As a respected regional and global player and a country with an excellent track record of developing its political, economic and social infrastructure, Malaysia is in a good position to offer its knowledge and expertise and is keen to work with Kosovo in nation-building efforts.

The inaugural visit by H.E. Hoxhaj, the first ever visit by a Foreign Minister of Kosovo and the first official bilateral visit to Malaysia, marks another positive chapter in relations between the two countries. The visit is expected to open doors and pave the way for broader cooperation in various sectors to elevate ties to greater heights.
