STATE VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF FRANCE,H.E. FRANÇOIS HOLLANDE,TO MALAYSIA 28 MARCH 2017
The President of France, His Excellency François Hollande, will undertake a State Visit to Malaysia on 28 March 2017. The President will be accompanied by ministers, members of parliament, officials, as well as a business delegation.
During the visit, President Hollande is scheduled to have an audience with Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The latter will allow both leaders to take stock of bilateral relations, as well as explore other possible areas of collaboration. It will also be an opportunity for the leaders to exchange views on a range of regional and global issues of common concern.
Both leaders are also scheduled to witness the signing of bilateral agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at further promoting cooperation and stimulate greater economic collaboration between Malaysia and France. Both countries will be signing an agreement in the defence sector which signifies the elevation of defence relations and opens avenues for exchanges of information between Malaysia and France in the defence sector. A letter of Intent is also expected to be signed between University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University of Montpellier and the Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) of France to establish a platform for “Sustainable Agricultural Landscapes in South East Asia” to address issues involving research, training and at the same time engage the relevant stakeholders into a long-term partnership.
This is the second State Visit by a French president to Malaysia. His Excellency President Jacques Chirac paid a State Visit to Malaysia in July 2003, a visit that was hailed as an important milestone for Malaysia-France bilateral relations. It is expected that President Hollande’s visit will further intensify already excellent relations between the two countries.
