WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF AUSTRALIA THE HONOURABLE JULIE BISHOP TO MALAYSIA 14-15 MARCH 2017
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia, the Honourable Julie Bishop, will be undertaking a working visit to Malaysia on 14-15 March 2017 to attend a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman, on 15 March 2017.
The Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is an annual meeting between both Ministers of Foreign Affairs under the Malaysia-Australia Strategic Partnership framework which was announced by the Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister of Australia on 22 November 2015. During the meeting, both Ministers are expected to take stock of the progress of the existing bilateral cooperation and will discuss the current regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Australia 60 years ago, bilateral relations between Malaysia and Australia have grown steadily and can be described as broad-based and substantive, with both countries enjoying vibrant cooperative relations in a wide range of sectors including trade and investment, education, security, defence and people-to-people ties. Total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Australia amounted to RM42.35 billion in 2016.
