WORKING VISIT OFTHE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MALAYSIA
TO MAKKAH, SAUDI ARABIA FOR THE EMERGENCY MEETING OF
THE OIC COUNCIL OF FOREIGN MINISTERS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Haji Aman, will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the Emergency Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers to be held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on 17 November 2016.
The Emergency Meeting will discuss the Yemeni Houthi missile attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 9 and 27 October 2016. The Emergency Meeting will also formally endorse H.E. Dr Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen as the new OIC Secretary-General replacing H.E. Tan Sri Iyad Ameen Madani who resigned on 31 October 2016 due to health reasons.
Malaysia’s participation at this meeting is an affirmation of its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the wake of the missile attacks. Malaysia hopes that the ongoing conflict in the region will be resolved through peaceful means.
Malaysia will also express its support and readiness to work closely with the new OIC Secretary-General in realising the objectives and aspirations of the OIC towards the betterment of the Muslim Ummah.
