Meeting with the Yunnan Culture & Tourism Bureau, 23 July 2020

On July 23, 2020, the said meeting between The Deputy Director of Yunnan, Culture & Tourism & The Consul General of Malaysia in Kunming took place at the Yunnan, Culture & Tourism Office. The Deputy Director of Yunnan, Culture & Tourism informed the meeting that Yunnan is determined and keen to establish a world-class standard in the segments of “green energy", "green food" and "healthy life destination". Various efforts, as well as initiatives, were being implemented and planned in order to materialize the said agendas not only by improving and developing new infrastructures but also, by using IT including AI as the driving tools.

 

She further commented that Yunnan and Kuala Lumpur have shared and hold such richness and well as abundant resources in tourism and cultural development. In 2019, the number of Malaysian tourists entered Yunnan Province registered at nearly 246,000, an increase of 16.25% from the previous year.

 

The Deputy Director explained that the cultural and tourism cooperation between Yunnan and Malaysia has made great progress. On June 15, 2018, Mr. Wong Soon Koh, Minister of International Trade and E-commerce of Sarawak State attended the cross border tourism cooperation forum held in Kunming and addressed the opening ceremony. Subsequently, in July 2029, at the invitation of the Mayor of Sibu City, Sarawak, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Yunnan organized a team of 22 ethnic culture artists to attend the "Borneo Culture Festival 2019”.
