On the occasion of the 56th National Day of Malaysia, the Embassy of Malaysia in Havana, Cuba held a Reception at Hotel Melia Cohiba on 12 September 2013, to commemorate our 56 years of Independence.
The reception started at 7.30 p.m. with the playing of the National Anthem of Cuba followed by Negaraku. H.E. Ambassador Jojie Samuel then delivered short remarks. The Guests of Honour for the reception were H.E. Alfredo Lopez Valdes, Minister of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Cuba, and H.E. Rogelio Sierra Díaz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba. Amongst other invitees who attended were Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Cuban Ministries and Agencies, Cuba’s MTCP Alumni members, media, Malaysians residing in Cuba, Embassy staff and Malaysian students.
Around 250 guests attended the reception. Aside from the food offered by the hotel, the guests were also treated to Malaysian delicacies such as karipap, satay and cucur udang. The guests were also entertained with several Malaysian and Cuban music performed by the Frasis string ensemble.
