Flag Off Ceremony For Larian Sahara-Sailing The Sand of Sahara at Aswan High Dam, 7 April 2012
Larian Sahara is a solo run by Malaysian female runner, Suwaibah Mohammad Nasir in Egypt. The run from Aswan to Port Said will cover the distance of 1111km and is expected to be completed within 32 days. The objectives of Larian Sahara are to create a Guinness World Record and a Malaysia Record as the first female runner to run across the Sahara as well as to place the name of Malaysia in the eyes of the world, especially in the Middle East and North Africa.
Larian Sahara was officially kick-started at Aswan High Dam in Aswan, 9.00am on 7 April 2012. The flag off was jointly officiated by a representative from the Embassy of Malaysia and representative of Aswan Governor, Mr Hany Rushdi Hassan Hebah, the Undersecretary of Ministry of Youth, Governorate of Aswan. Mr Abd El Hakeem Hussein, General Manager of Egyptian Tourism Authority, Aswan was also in attendance.
