EGYPT AND MALAYSIA: NEW HORIZONS OF COOPERATION

 

Trade and investment relations between Egypt and Malaysian were discussed on 23 November 2008 when the Minister of Investment of Egypt, HE Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin met the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Trade Development Authority (MATRADE), HE Dato' Noharuddin Nordin.

 

The meeting covered the results of Dr. Mohieldin's visit to Malaysia and Singapore last August.

Dr. Mohieldin highlighted the importance of attracting more Malaysian investments to Egypt in the fields of food industries, agriculture, automotives, transport services and infrastructure in partnership between the public and private sectors.

 

Dr. Mohieldin urged more visits between the two sides, referring to the forthcoming visit by the Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry to Egypt early next year to explore the investment opportunities available in Egypt.

 

The Minister of Investment announced that a technical mission of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) will be sent to Malaysia in the coming period to discuss cooperation in sectors of financial services, infrastructure, telecommunications and information technology and automotive industry. 

 

Dr. Mohieldin added that several investment opportunities will be offered to Malaysian investors

during their visit to Egypt including petroleum, natural gas, car spare parts, wood products, electronics, weaving and ready-made garments, drug products and logistic services.
