At the invitation of Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd (PERODUA), the Charge d’ Affaires (CDA) of the High Commission of Malaysia in Zimbabwe paid a visit to Mauritius from 22-25 November 2011 to attend the launching ceremony of the new flagship model of Perodua MyVi cars.
The launching ceremony was organised on 24 November 2011 at Intercontinental Hotel Resort in Mauritius at 6.30 pm. The launching was officiated by the Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Ahmed Rashid Beebeejaun in the present of the Managing Director of Perodua, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh and Managing Director of Rauf Dusmahmud and Co Ltd, Mr. Rauf Dusmahmud (Perodua distributor in Mauritius). Other attendees include Mrs. Norhaliza Halid, Trade Commissioner from Malaysian Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Mr. Mazhaidy Mazlan, Director of Tourism Malaysia.
Mauritius has always been a good market for Perodua cars and the response on the cars has been very positive. With the introduction of the new model, the company was expecting to further boast of its overall sales by 67% to 200 units in 2012 from expected 120 units in 2011 and by the end of December, the figure is expected to reach 140 units.
Perodua is strengthening its presence in the overseas market, with the launch of the new Myvi 1.3 litre model in Mauritius, being the first international market of the model outside Malaysia. The Perodua was first introduced in Mauritius 15 years ago with its first model Perodua Kancil.
In conjunction with the visit, CDA took the opportunity to pay courtesy calls on the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Mauritius, Mr. Saleem Rashid Bebeejaun, Head of Bilateral Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius, Mr. Vishwakarmah Mungur, and Ms. Faeeza Ibrahimsah, Manager of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mauritius.
